At present, 30% of any orthodontic practice is adult patients. Orthodontics is no longer the purview of the child and teenager. Many adults seek orthodontic treatment to satisfy a longstanding desire to treat a malocclusion, for psychological well being, better chewing ability, or because their dentition is beginning to deteriorate due to the position of their teeth. Adults are welcome and encouraged. Their treatment is usually no more difficult than a youngster and usually takes approximately the same period of time. Some adult problems can only be treated with a combination of orthodontic and surgical treatment and we will discuss these options should they apply. We will make every effort to schedule our adult patients at a time convenient to their busy schedule.
After your first visit, Drs. Lowney will have studied all the diagnostic records and will have arrived at an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. A Doctor will present a thorough and complete diagnosis of the malocclusion, an outline of the treatment plan, discuss the length of treatment, any unusual problems and make necessary recommendations for successful treatment. The estimated treatment period of time is usually reasonably accurate and depends upon the cooperation received from the patient.
