 Dr. Jennifer LowneyDR JEN

Dr. Jennifer Lowney has a particular interest in many aspects of orthodontics including: surgical orthodontics for growth disharmonies, the use of mini-implants to reduce treatment time and using computer analysis to incorporate favorable facial growth into the orthodontic treatment plans of her patients.

Dr. Jennifer Lowney is humbled by the opportunity of practicing orthodontics in the community in which she grew up. A Lebanon native, she is a 1984 graduate from the Williams School in New London, Connecticut. From there, she pursued a dual degree in biology and philosophy at Tufts University and graduated from the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine in 1991. She received her orthodontic certificate from the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine in 1993. She has recently rejoining the orthodontic department as a part-time faculty member. She has published several articles in the orthodontic and medical literature but considers her biggest accomplishment being the birth of her triplet daughters in 2002.

She began practicing with her dad, Dr. Jeremiah Lowney, in 1993. Soon after that, they changed the name of the practice to Family Orthodontic Care, with the motto, “Let our family take care of yours”. In 1995, she married Dr. Richard Martin of Connecticut Surgical Arts. They have four daughters (yes four), Cassidy, Madison, Sydney and Paige, and they live in Bozrah, Connecticut.

Being a mom has made me a better orthodontist in many ways. “I understand how hard it is to get your children to all of their activities and appointments. I try to make my patient’s treatment as efficient as possible by minimizing the number and frequency of appointments AND offering untraditional office hours: before school, and Saturday mornings.”

Before becoming a full-time working mom, Dr. Jen enjoyed being an active participant in both the Norwich and Colchester communities. She was an active member in the Rotary Club of Colchester for many years, and she was on the Board of Directors of the Colchester Business Association and Chairman of their welcome committee.

She cherishes the time she spends with her husband and their young family. They enjoy swimming, surfing, boating, skiing, biking and running, and she as participated in the Hartford Marathon since 2002.

Dr. Lowney is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontics, Northeast Society of Orthodontists, Connecticut State Society of Orthodontics and New London County Dental Association.
